Conjurer with Duet
This is a framed type of the classical automaton, nowadays a replica of a classical mechanical scene.
The multi-character scene is built-in inside the antiqued gold frame. The Conjurer is in the center, performing his tricks on the table. There are four interchangeable objects in the mechanism inside the small fabric-covered table. Before each object switch, the Conjurer nods his head, raises one hand, and then the other. During the show both musicians "play" the viola and the oboe.
The total number of movements is 6, plus the music movement.
This automaton has a unique gravitation motor. To wind the mechanism up, pull down either the ball on the bottom of the frame or the lever on its side - whichever is more convenient. The dual wind-up system allows putting the automaton on a table or hanging it on a wall.
All dolls are dressed in baroque costumes; the musicians have baroque-style wigs made of wool. All three monkeys are inside a "rotunda," or gazebo. Behind the gazebo is a beautiful Italian landscape - and oil painting on canvas.
