Lutenist

This 12-inch doll represents a monkey playing the lute. The monkey has a baroque-style dress and instrument. During the performance, she moves her right eye from side to side, opens and closes her eyelids, and moves her head as well as hand. The music stand is a Stop-and-Go lever. When turning the base of the music stand, the doll moves and the music starts playing.

A musician doll used to be a widespread idea among automata in the past. This monkey lutenist is unique, though, because after playing for a while, she stands up and takes a bow.

The action for this automaton is quite original. This was Anatoly's first doll in which a number of wire cables in flexible cases were used. Since then, he has often been using this technique, which helps broaden the personality expression capabilities of the doll.

Here is a video of the Lutenist's movement.
